Growing up with a father making music and a mother painting, it’s no surprise Daan Groot found the perfect combination of these mediums in film. Ultimately, his love for film led him to The Netherlands Film Academy, where he graduated in 2017 with the film “Aimée”. This short won the award for the best fiction graduation film and premiered at the Academy Award Qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival.
With a great fascination for human life and all its emotions, he aims to make his work as sensory and tangible as possible. The result? Commercials with strong moods, a cinematic and poetic style, and not afraid of the rough edges. In the process, he loves working with actors to achieve authentic and honest performances. In addition, the director attaches great value to music in film. This is one of the reasons he makes his own music, which he combines, where fitting and possible, with his own work.
His first commercial film called “MARTAN’’, for L’Oréal Paris, won the Young Discovery Award at Fashion Film Festival Istanbul. Besides that, it was nominated and selected at numerous festivals. He shot his first international campaign for Brooks Running in London, Rome, and Germany. He also made commercials for brands such as Carhartt, Gall & Gall, ReumaNederland, Ben, and Radio 10.
